ย ย With many people transitioning from Quarantine Life to Back-to-Business Life, it is good time to sit down and reflect on you fitness goals and plans for 2021. If you haven’t been keeping up with your goals and resolutions, don’t beat yourself up over it. With about six and a half months until the ball drops for 2021, you still have plenty of time to make changes and adjustments to this year’s goals in order to get the best results out of them. ๐โโ๏ธ๐
More good news: there is still time to achieve your 2020 summer bod! ๐โโ๏ธ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ๐ช With all the gyms being closed, manyย trainers and training facilities are doing Instagram live or online classes that anyone can attend/tune into for FREE. This is an excellent opportunity to try new things.ย Check out YouTube and Meetup for Free Classes on everything from Zumba, to yoga to art history. Zoom meetings are not just for your kids school work and your work meetings. There are “Zoominars” and webinar’s on just about everything!๐ฉโ๐ป๐ฅฆ๐คณ๐โโ๏ธ๐บ๐ป๐ป๐โโ๏ธ
With NJ parks, trails, beaches and more public areas opening, it’s the perfect time to tune up your exercise plans by adding some outdoor activities, like hikes or 5Ks to them. Most likely, you can take a virtual tour of new destinations before arriving.๐จโ๐ป๐ฉโ๐ป๐บ๐๐๐งณ
BeneFIT PT has prepared you for running a 5k through our Couch to 5k series, and many of us particpated in May’s Virtual Action for Distraction.
Now, BeneFIT PT is happy to sponsor The New Jersey Virtual Challenge. This includes 5 different races of different difficulty levels; something for everyone! ๐ The miles are cumulative and the completion deadline isn’t until August. For more information, check out their website(LINK ABOVE) on how to register. Registration includes a medal and T-shirt.ย
Maybe one of your resolutions was to learn a new skill or attend a continuing education course. The extra time spent at home due to COVID-19 created some great opportunities to fulfillย that goal. Many universities, including Ivy League schools such as Yale, Harvard, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania and Princeton are offering FREE online classes through Coursera. Museum and library websites are might have classes or Zoominar lectures on topics that interest you.ย Check out this Yale class all about well beingย too ๐.
Most of these classes are self paced, so there is no pressure of keeping up or feeling like you are being slowed down because maybe with the quarantine, you may have a lot more time than usual to devote to learning. They offer courses in business, humanities, social, computer, earth science, health and many more. Princeton University Art Museum is also offering free membership which gives you access to free art classes and lectures. Almost every museum is offering online courses,ย virtual tours, lectures, concerts and more, since physical visitation has been impossible.ย Delve into something new. You could even listen to a concert, webinar or book while walking outside!
Remember: Vitamin D is better than Vitamin TV.๐๐
Was eating a healthier diet on your list?๐ฅฆ๐ฅฌ๐ฅ Instead of sitting on the couch and snacking while watching TV, extra time can be used to actually cook a healthy meal which you won’t feel guilty eating and in return, you will be snacking less.ย
In “Making Your Resolution Stick”, published online by the American Psychological Association, psychologist Lynn Bufka, PhD says โRemember, it is not the extent of the change that matters, but rather the act of recognizing that lifestyle change is important and working toward it, one step at a time”. Now might be the perfect time for you to take a step to reorganize and revist your 2020 goals.ย
What to do first ? Well pick something specific, a small goal that you can reach in a measurable amout of time. As always, WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING!
