Back and Spine Physical Therapy

There are a lot of causes of back pain. Some common phrases heard often are “sciatica”, a “pinched” nerve, or that someone “threw their back out”. Most of these phrases are synonyms for a herniated or “bulging” disc, which can seriously limit your ability to participate in common activities, perform even the simplest tasks, or in some cases even cough.

Making matters worse is that the nerves for our legs originate from our low back so an injury to this area can create pain, tingling, and numbness that can radiate down into your legs and feet.  However, a herniated disc is one of many factors that can contribute to pain in our low backs; other common ailments include spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and spondylolisis. MRIs routinely depict multiple diagnoses being present that could contribute to your pain and further complicate your treatment, as it must be determined which diagnosis is the “correct” diagnosis.  Because there are many reasons for neck pain and treatment can vary widely, we at BeneFIT Physical Therapy utilize an approach commonly called “the McKenzie Method”.

The McKenzie Method, a system of Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment, is a unique philosophy of active patient involvement that starts as you are initially evaluated.
